The bell sounding a mere few minutes ago were still ringing in Adrien Cochrane’s mind. He smiles as he feels a towel being wiped across his face. We did it, he thought to himself. We’re one step closer, he continued. Finally, he says these words out loud.
Adrien: “We did it…”
He smiles as he hears the footsteps approaching him of the other person on his side that was out by the ring. In a way, it’s the reason why he used the plural first person pronoun and not the singular. The stagehand who was providing the towel wiping service for him departs as he can turn his attention to the person who was walking towards him. His girlfriend...no, fiancée now…
Adrien: “I...I still can’t believe you…”
Everalda: “...hit Ms. Kayla Richards with a dropkick?”
She offers her fiancé a gentle smile. Between tonight in Nanjing and the first night in Rio De Janeiro, her attire is completely different. Activewear, casual and comfortable. Even her long blonde hair is tied back in a tight braid. She walks up to Adrien and politely bows.
Everalda: “Honestly, I'm still a little shocked.”
In the first of the three meetings for the Super Falcon Cup to be decided, Kayla Richards provided a distraction when Adrien was on the top rope, which led to a momentum change that led to Adrien losing the first meeting. Kayla tried to this for the second one. Everalda Sears performed her first ever public dropkick to rid Kayla from impacting the match. Adrien was able to get the win this time around, a match that ended just a few minutes ago.
Adrien: “You’re shocked? You’re the one who did it!”
Everalda: “I know!”
She can't help but giggle softly, a light red hue blush gracing her fine cheeks.
Everalda: “After the unfair ending on night one, I knew that Ms. Kayla would interfere again. She and Mr. Danielson are nefarious for doing whatever it takes to win. Well, you asked me to stand by your side… so I thought I would do more than just stand.”
Adrien: “Clearly…”
The eldest Sears sibling folds her hands behind her back and she lightly toe-kicks the floor. She finds comfort in her pink Converse sneakers.
Everalda: “I wanted to do this… for you.”
Adrien: “You’re aware that Kayla Richards is a former World Heavyweight Champion, right?”
Cochrane looks at Everalda with a stern expression. He’s almost expecting a nod from her.
Everalda: “Yes… but I know the basics thanks to you, and if things go awry, you, Jessica, and Dean would make sure nothing happens to me.”
She offers him a knowing little smile with a cute tilt of her head. Moving her hands in front of her, she reaches up and places them on the sides of Adrien’s face.
Everalda: “We're in this together now.”
Adrien shakes his head a little bit.
Adrien: “I guess we are. Granted...I’m not exactly sure how much I want you to be trying to take on former World Champs when I’m dealing with someone else in the ring. Just for the sake of being...let’s just say slightly less reckless?”
Cochrane has a grin on his face at this point. He’s still in his wrestling gear at this point: the black leather pants with “Dropkick King” and a #Believe t-shirt. His blonde hair was all over the place...he did just wrestle a match after all. Sears’s hands move up, her fingers gently running through his unkempt hair, and before she decides on a verbal response, she kisses him ever-so-sweetly. She brings herself closer to him, her arms around his neck and her right hand on the back of his head. Slowly, she breaks the kiss albeit with some hesitation, but only because she enjoys kissing her beloved.
Everalda: “I promise to only get involved if Ms. Richards tries to interfere again… and I'll be careful. I promise.”
Cochrane gives Sears a loving gaze in return.
Adrien: “Please do. Now. We have a Super Falcon Cup to win, don’t we?”
The loving gaze turns to a confident smile. The word on his very chest was the word that was on his mind. He believes he can do this. He believes he will win the Super Falcon Cup.
Everalda: “Yes, we do, and if we win…”
She leans in close and whispers something in his ear, even though they're alone together. A sweet smile crosses her face as she tilts her head and plants butterfly kisses along his neck. It appears to be an erogenous spot for the Dropkick King.
“Congratulations, guys! Though I was not expecting to see a dropkick from Miss Sears and...did I interrupt something or…?
Eddie Walker, always on time to interrupt personal moments, enters the hallway with a wide grin on his face. He was calling commentary for the shows with a former boss of Adrien’s, Edward Nair.
Eddie: “You guys could just...I dunno, go back to your hotel room if you want to be doing all of that!”
Of course, Eddie's intricately-timed appearance causes Everalda to quickly draw back from Adrien. A slightly brighter blush surfaces on her cheeks as she clears her throat to compose herself.
Everalda: “Mr. Walker, your ability to appear in the private moments between myself and Adrien concerns me a little. Are you sure you're not spying on us?”
Eddie: “If that was intentional, it would happen more often...or less often...I’m not quite sure how I would use that gift. Either way, that is not the case!”
Everalda sticks her tongue out in a joking manner, just as her son Klaus does. She giggles and wraps an arm around one of Adrien’s, her hand moving down to hold his. They even lace their fingers together.
Everalda: “All fun aside, we officially have a third round to ultimately decide the winner of the 2018 Super Falcon Cup. What do you think, Eddie? Are the Believers ready?”
Eddie: “As someone who can see everything from the announce table, they are definitely ready. We captured a World Title this year. Let’s make sure we end this year on a high note. Super Falcon Cup.”
Cochrane places an arm over his best friend and manager.
Adrien: “I like the sound of that.”
Eddie: “Damn right you do. And don’t think for one second that there is anyone out there who believes in you as much as me, and Miss Sears here.”
He felt everyone in the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium believing in him. When Adrien was able to counter the One Fall, he felt the energy in the entire venue change. It was at that very moment the match turned around, and he never gave back the momentum after that. And that’s what he has to do the third and final match. For the Super Falcon Cup. He has to believe, and he has to win.

It was his first time in the country. There have been European tours in the career of Adrien Cochrane, but it never made its way to Russia. Moscow was always one of those cities that, when it’s brought up, people typically think “That would be cool to visit” despite never really making top destination lists. Cochrane, being a native of New Orleans, wore a black leather jacket, a pair of black gloves, and a matching black beanie.
“Moscow…”
The Dropkick King gives a warm smile into the camera. The landscape was white with snow. The powdery precipitation was even beginning to accumulate on the top of Adrien’s hat. His footsteps crunch under his weight.
“Not exactly where I thought I was going to be spending my December, but it is definitely a winter wonderland. The ice and snow were as advertised. The small cottages and historic castles were as well. Russia meets the expectation of most people imagine it is like here, minus all the bears and communists. This isn’t the Soviet Union anymore, whatever your opinion is of Putin.
“But I’m here to help make the dream of Billy Danielson. He had one wrestler left on his list of competitors he wanted to test himself against. He had one name left that he wanted to do battle with. I dislike having to turn down challenges like that. It’s not how I like to approach this job. A good challenge is something I have a hard time passing up. Because no matter what other people think of Billy Danielson and how he shouldn’t be calling himself the GOAT or what not, Billy Danielson is a challenge.”
Cochrane’s smile widens a bit. The reflection of the setting sun is visible in his black sunglasses.
“And this is the way it should be. A battle for the ages: three rounds in three different countries between Billy Danielson and Adrien Cochrane. These are fans who have likely never seen either one of us in person, only able to really enjoy the matches we put on from a screen. When Billy threw down the gauntlet, there was no way I could say no.
“But why did Billy want to make this three-match series for the Super Falcon Cup? Well, this all started when Billy’s solution to the hiatus of Guerreros of Lucha was for him to tell them to give it to him if there was going to be no tournament. He just wanted to be given the trophy just because he was the first one to ask. In the eyes of Billy Danielson, the self-appointed greatest of all time...wants to just be given the Super Falcon Cup because of the speed of his thumbs on the Twitter app.
“I don’t ever want to be given any sort of championship or award like that. The only way I ever want to win some sort of title or something similar such as the Super Falcon Cup is to win it by beating someone inside the squared circle. That’s earning what you’ve got. That’s getting what you deserve. That is truly being a true champion, or in this case, the winner of the Super Falcon Cup. Not asking for it and just receiving it. That’s not what I would ever expect from a self-proclaimed greatest of all time. A person who believes themselves to be the greatest of all time should never settle for such a thing. I would expect someone who has that much faith in your abilities to want to step into the ring and get this Cup the old-fashioned way. The world owes you, so fuck everyone else, right?
“You disappointed me, at first. You tell me that if I really wanted it, I would have asked for it the way you did. I told you that’s not how I wanted to win it. And as disappointed as I was in you, I was even more so in Guerreros of Lucha because they were prepared to just hand you the Cup. I was going to not even want the Cup anymore if that was how they were going to determine it: the person who asked first…”
The Dropkick King gives an audible scoff. There was a hint of dismay in that scoff. But what follows that scoff was a bit of a head nod and yet another smile.
“We remedied that. I had to remind you that I was the one person on your list that you no longer shared a company with. I had to remind you that the Super Falcon Cup was the best way to cross me off your list, even if the tournament was canceled. We finally made this work, and I do want to commend you for that, Billy Danielson. You could have taken the Cup and just ran with it. You could have completely ignored my name on your list and moved on with your life. But you didn’t. You did the right thing, Billy, and I’m proud of you for doing so.”
Cochrane has approached a bench at this point. He wipes off the layer of snow on the seat before taking a seat. His necklace hangs a few inches in front of his chest as he leans forward to be slightly closer to the camera.
“Which brings us to the three matches we have scheduled before us…”
The New Orleans native gives a soft chuckle.
“You picked Brazil, China, and Russia because it was the last three places you wanted to wrestle in before the year was over. Think about every word in that sentence because it’s important to my point. Russia...obviously…”
Cochrane gestures at his surroundings.
“...is the third and final leg of this series. Because you wanted to wrestle here. Or did you really?”
His eyebrows raise a little.
“Before the first show, you immediately determined that the third match between you and I would be unnecessary. You went as far as actually booking and even putting down a deposit on a One Direction cover band to take the slot of the third match. So you didn’t want to wrestle in Russia after all?”
The four-time World Heavyweight Champion chuckles a little harder this time.
“You would have been attending and promoting a wrestling show in Russia, but unless you planned on coming out and wrestling your One Direction cover band, your list wasn’t going to be completed. And I was pretty sure knocking out that list was your biggest motivator to doing this series with me in the first place.
“You certainly hold yourself to a high standard. The title of the series being ‘Billy Danielson Wins in the End’ was the first sign that you have complete confidence in yourself. The aforementioned cover band booking was another. You declared yourself the winner before either one of us even arrived in Rio. You probably already have a plate made for the cup with your name on it, prepared to place it on the trophy. You’re already the winner, right?
“Nah. That’s not how this works, Billy. I have had people dismiss me like that in every stop in my wrestling career, especially when championships were involved. You think any of my opponents gave me any chance to take their titles away from them? The closest person to acknowledging that I actually had the ability to take away the championship from them was Johnny Maverick, and he was in the process of torching the place on his way out. What makes you any different than any of them? You’re the greatest of all time? Billy, every person with an above-average ego in this industry thinks they’re the greatest of all time. You parade your accomplishments and championships like they make you the biggest and baddest on the planet, but there’s a lot of people with similar resumes. What was the stuff you bragged about to the guy who signs my paycheck, Eric Donovan again? This tweet right here…”
A tweet from a week earlier is edited to the bottom of the video. It read: “I'm a multi-time world champion, have double-digit titles and awards, have led 2 of the biggest stables in wrestling, and have started to act and model because I've hit a glass ceiling for wrestling.”
“Multi-time World Heavyweight Champion? I’ve got four of those in four different companies. Check. Double-digit titles and awards? I’m up to eleven, thankfully. Check. Have led two of the biggest stables in wrestling? Well, I was one of the biggest figureheads in the EXODUS Pro Seikigun taking on LEGION, who literally had people flock from other companies to join and fight us. Several members of the Seikigun went on to win the World title, in EXODUS Pro and outside. Disagree? I dare you to tell Andreas Lasiewicz that a team he was on didn’t matter. Then there was the Guardians, which literally won a match that had one of your stables in the match as well, which by the way, which was one of two times we were opponents before this series, and I pinned you in the other one. Check. Acting and modeling because just wrestling wasn’t enough for you anymore? Well, I have a music career, own a music studio, and produce albums in my spare time. I also did a movie with Kenzi Grey and Rayven Hardy a few years ago, and my future wife is a supermodel. Going to give myself a check there. So you bragged to HYBRID owner Eric Donovan that you are all of those things when someone he signed just a few months ago also hits EVERY SINGLE one of those bullet points? Tsk, tsk.
“I’m not going to pretend like I’m some uniquely gifted individual that will absolutely win everything. I’m not naive enough to think that the person across the ring from me isn’t a talented person and capable of doing great things. I’m definitely not saying that about you either. You are talented, Billy. But that’s where this little hashtag comes into play.”
Cochrane remembers that he’s wearing a jacket and his shirt isn’t visible.
“#Believe. It’s not about me being some sort of greatest of all time. I could always be better. I’m a human being who is still working out all my flaws and weaknesses as I go along. But the whole point of #Believe is that I believe that I can win any given match on any given night. Not every match. Not every night. But any match on any night. Every match on every night is arrogance. Any match on any night is confidence. That’s the difference between working hard to make sure I leave Russia with the Super Falcon Cup and booking a band because you deem the third match irrelevant. That’s the difference between you and me, Billy. That’s what separates real champions from title holders. If you think you’re already at the top of the mountain, why keep climbing? If you’re the greatest of all time and you only do the acting and modeling because you feel like you’ve done everything already, you must think you’re there. So you’re not working harder to be better than you were the day before. You’re not trying to improve yourself. You’re not trying to be the best Billy Danielson you could possibly be. You’ve plateaued, and your arrogance is the reason.
“You’re not a perfect wrestler, Billy. Otherwise, you would have needed Kayla Richards to get involved to get the victory in round one. Nor would you have lost to me in round two. You’re capable of dropping the third one to me, and if you don’t see it, then it makes it all the more possible to happen. I might have a fistful of ideals and an optimistic point of view, but at least I know that I have to earn every victory I get. I’m going to bust my ass to make sure that I’m ready when that bell rings and the Super Falcon Cup is on the line, one last time with all the chips down. I’ll see you in the ring, Billy. And good luck. You might think you don’t need it because you are THAT positive you’re going to win, but I certainly wish it upon you.
“Congrats on your recent championship, by the way. You've had a great year with lots of championships, and I do want you to know that I am proud of everything you've accomplished. But I'm going to make sure that to the best of my ability, the Super Falcon Cup will have to wait another year. You're a great wrestler. But don't forget, I'm a great wrestler too.”
