Julliet Brooks... just the name sends shivers down the spines of lesser people.
A picture of Julliet Brooks appears, being displayed on the wall of the condo via a photo projector.
The name evokes a response of fear to most people. Her presence is that of one, not of royalty, not of deviltry, not of holy means. Julliet Brooks is more than just wrestler. She is more than just a fighter. She is more than just a name, a presence, a face. Julliet Brooks is the definition of an icon. She is one of those people that their reputation precedes them wherever they go, and wherever Julliet decides to give her presence to, is a hundred times better, because of her.
All of these things are what the public sees. It is what I saw when I walked into Boardwalk and saw the name and heard their praises and watched her work inside and outside of the ring. As glamorous and as beautiful as she is, she has that movie star quality, that once in a lifetime attraction that mere mortals only dream about. And to compound all of that with the viciousness, the destruction, the devastation, and the pure unadulterated violence that she can bring forth, it is truly an event when someone takes on THE Julliet Brooks.

A rare photo of Julliet and Jan now appears on the wall, the two sharing a pizza and a bottle of wine from a local restaurant.
And yet, all of these things are just as true as the ones I said previously. She is the complete wrestler. She has no faults. Yet she also enjoys a glass of wine with a slice of pizza in a small little restaurant in Atlantic City and that reveals the true Julliet Brooks a kind, tender gentle woman. I know that I'm not going to see that Julliet Brooks in the ring though. This is literally a once-in-a-lifetime event for both of us.
The projector shines a bright light against the wall. The profile of Jan is seen in the light.
We have crossed paths. We have said our Hello’s. We have even had that dinner of wine and pizza but yet we have never stepped foot together in the ring as rivals or as partners. But now is the time. The Soaring Eagle Title is on the line. She holds it. I covet it. The Guerreros of Lucha needed an opponent and she was willing to accept me as her opponent. She was willing to allow me the honor and respect of taking on the Icon and, unfortunately, she has also given me the extreme pleasure of becoming the next Soaring Eagle champion.
The profile turns towards the light, showing the stoic stare from the Dutchman.
I am going to take that title from around her waist. I'm going to take her title from off of her shoulder. I'm going to take her title away from her hands and place them within mine because she has never met someone like me in the ring. She has never gone against someone like me in all of her career. Yes, she is dangerous. Yes, she is beautiful. Yes, to all of those accolades and all of those things, the superlatives can go for years and years and never say enough about THE Julliet Brooks.
The light shades from a bright white to a deep orange.
But all of that means nothing because on January 28th, in Monterrey, Mexico:
The icon of Julliet Brooks
The aura of Julliet Brooks
The idol of Julliet Brooks
Falls
It all crumbles and melts away. The facade of Extreme Greatness and Extreme Violence will simply cease to exist. Because she's taking on me:
The Rooster
The Fixer
The Dutch Deathstalker
The 23-year veteran of this business.
If she wants a fight, we will fight. If she wants to wrestle, we will wrestle. If she wants to brawl throughout the arena, then we will brawl throughout the arena and the results will remain the same. I will be the one to crush the American Idol. I will be the one to destroy the New Mexico Queen. I will be the one who will defeat The Guerrera of Lucha and I will be the one who will be the one walking out of that Arena with my head held high and The Soaring Eagle Title around my waist.
I will be Hecho en Mexico and That's The Way It Is

Squires of Wrestling Academy - Atlantic City
Monday Night 9PM 1/22/18
Monday Night 9PM 1/22/18
The converted warehouse that houses the Squires of Wrestling Academy is quiet with lights dimmed through the area. The workout machines are silent. The sauna is closed. The entire area is near vacant, save for two figures in the raised ring, in the center of the location. Raised by design with lights shining directly down onto the ring, the two figures roll through a myriad of moves. The awkward fighting techniques of the female with the auburn hair catch the older man off-guard, which is highly unusual, due to their familiarity with each other. A wild right foot connects just above the temple of the slower man, causing him to stumble and fall to the mat. She readies to continue her attack but stops in mid jump, landing beside the man as a spot of blood appears on the mat as the man rolls towards the outside, holding his head and neck as he stands on the raised platform.
You’re not yourself.
Amber Ryan drops to a knee, leaning against the ropes with a hand grasping the middle. Her breath heavy from the last half hour of work, she looks over as the old man pulls his hand away from his forehead, a trickle of blood appearing from a small cut.
I’ve tried that twenty times, and you have never NOT blocked it.
He looks up at her and nods, his breath surprisingly ragged for a man who prides himself on his cardio.
Sorry.
He walks over to a table near the corner and opens a black bag. His eyes fixated on something then grabs a towel from the bag. Two bottles of water sit on the table as Jan pats the open wound with the towel. Amber rolls to the apron and sits on the side, her elbows on her knees as part of her trademark pose. He turns and hands her a bottle of water that she accepts. He takes the other and sits on the apron a few feet away from her.
I have a lot on my mind right now.
Amber takes a swig but doesn’t reply. Jan starts to take a drink but simply puts the bottle of water down beside of him.
Thank you for coming here tonight. I know your schedule is quite busy, but I also know you faced Julliet on numerous occasions, so what better way to get ready for her than to get in the psyche of her opponent, right?
Amber gives a side glance to Jan and raises an eyebrow.
That’s why for the last half hour, you’ve let me hit you with kicks and punches and moves that I’ve tried over and over every time we spar. And every time, you block, you counter, you…. It’s like you want me to beat you up, old man.
Jan slowly nods, hops off the apron and walks back to the table. He places the towel on the side then reaches into the bag. He turns back and walks to Amber with a small stuffed bear in his hand.
Ever remember the question of ‘What do you carry in your bag that you take with you everywhere you go?’
She slowly nods, eying the toy then Jan, wondering what or where this is coming from.
Well…
(Foote / van der Roost House, Suburban Detroit 1/19/18)
Jan sits on the couch of the living room with Sasha standing by his side. The two look at each other then Sasha nods.
In bounds the eight year old girl, wearing her Miffy pajamas, and holding a tablet.
The girl slides beside of Jan. He takes the tablet and places it on the coffee table.
Jan looks at Brit then back at Sasha then back to Brit.
Jan stops for a second as Brit looks up at him.
Brit’s nose wrinkles as she processes everything.
Brit hugs Jan and starts to cry. Jan comforts her with a hand on her back.
Brit breaks away from Jan’s hold and runs into her room. Jan looks up at Sasha and starts to say something but Brit runs back in and stands in front of Jan with two dolls.
She looks at the Miffy doll then hands the other toy, a stuffed bear, to Jan.
She hands Jan the bear, hugs hims and kisses his cheek. With a tear trailing on his cheek, she runs back into her room, closing the door. Jan gently wipes the tear away, then stands up and looks at Sasha.
Sasha gives him a soft kiss on the cheek, just above Brit’s kiss. Jan walks over to the door, with Lucky in hand. He places the bear into his black bag, and walks out the door, closing it behind him.
Jan sits on the couch of the living room with Sasha standing by his side. The two look at each other then Sasha nods.
Britney, will you come here please?
In bounds the eight year old girl, wearing her Miffy pajamas, and holding a tablet.
Here I am!
I need you to sit beside of me for a minute, ok?
Sure, Papa Jan!
The girl slides beside of Jan. He takes the tablet and places it on the coffee table.
We… I need to talk to you about something important for a minute, ok?
Is it about my room? I’m sorry that it’s a mess, I was gonna clean it up after.
No, it is not about your room.
Ok.
Jan looks at Brit then back at Sasha then back to Brit.
You know I love and care about you very much.
And you love Mommy and Sebastian too.
Yes I do. But sometimes people find out that their better off in a relationship that is not… Mommy and Daddy.
What do you mean?
Your mommy and I have decided that we….
Jan stops for a second as Brit looks up at him.
We have decided that we are better as friends and that Papa Jan will not be staying here any longer.
Brit’s nose wrinkles as she processes everything.
But you love me and Mommy and Sebastian?
I do.
So why can’t you stay?
It’s complicated.
But… But… I promise I’ll clean my room up. And I’ll even get Mommy to clean her room too.
Brit hugs Jan and starts to cry. Jan comforts her with a hand on her back.
It has nothing to do with you, or your room or anything else. I will still be seeing you and Sebastian, and your Mommy. And we will still take you to see Miffy too.
And Mama Marisje?
And Niko and Marit too.
Then why can’t you stay?
I just can’t.
Brit breaks away from Jan’s hold and runs into her room. Jan looks up at Sasha and starts to say something but Brit runs back in and stands in front of Jan with two dolls.
Remember when you gave me this Miffy doll? It was the first time we made cuppycakes for you.
I do.
You told me that this was yours.
It is.
And you gave it to me to keep with me, to be there for me when you were gone away.
I did.
She looks at the Miffy doll then hands the other toy, a stuffed bear, to Jan.
Well this was mine, and I want you to keep it with you so that he can be there for you. His name is Lucky.
She hands Jan the bear, hugs hims and kisses his cheek. With a tear trailing on his cheek, she runs back into her room, closing the door. Jan gently wipes the tear away, then stands up and looks at Sasha.
I am sorry. I do and will always love you.
Sasha gives him a soft kiss on the cheek, just above Brit’s kiss. Jan walks over to the door, with Lucky in hand. He places the bear into his black bag, and walks out the door, closing it behind him.
Jan looks down at the bear, holding it in his hand after telling the story to Amber.
So that’s it? You just left.
Really not like you at all to just walk away from anything, I’ve seen you dig your heels in a hundred times over, fuck man how much time have you spent around me when I gave you every reason in the world to walk away…
You didn’t, yet you’re doing it now…

Far from the sympathetic type, Amber rolled back beneath the bottom rope.
Gotta admit though, your timing really does suck darl.
I did not just leave, but I … this was coming. I could see it. Sasha could see it. A no-win situation that we…. I am now trying to make the best of. I apologize for dropping this onto you. You did not come here to do anything more than work. I just know if I am not in the right frame of mind, Julliet will take my head off, and I thought that getting back into the ring, would clear my head. Instead, you took my head nearly off.

A half hearted chuckle escapes the redhead as she drags herself to her feet.
No need for apologies considering the amount of times you’ve probably sewn me back together after I’ve chosen to do something stupid, likely saved my life on at least one occasion.
Consider part of the debt repaid- besides, beating on you is one of my favourite past times. All joking aside though, you can’t let this bog you down darl.
It hurts, it sucks… Draw from it, in this state I reckon I’d have you beat in two minutes flat and I don’t even have malicious intent, I’ve got nothing on the line.
Julliet Brooks will do more than just take your head if you don’t pull it out of the sand.

Jan looks at Amber, then down at the bear. He slowly nods and puts the bear back in the bag. He sighs, closes his eyes, then turns around to face Amber, the trademark stoic look back on his face.
Then I had better Fix the Fixer… Like you said, Julliet won’t be as nice about as you are. I guess we should get to Round 2 tonight.
It isn’t about fixing things Jan, I love ya… I really do, but not everything can be fixed. All you can do is pick up all the broken pieces and hope that you can still use them for something good.
Don’t present her with this ‘woe is me’ JVDR, show her the one that came back to Boardwalk with a vengeance cause he took some fire laden tacks to the face. Show her the JVDR that put himself in this position to begin with, otherwise if you give her the opportunity, well, she’ll kick you where it hurts.
As for round 2? Don’t expect me to be so nice either...

He raises an eyebrow and gives a rare smile to Amber.
I will not be so forthcoming either.
He climbs back up onto the apron and holds open the ropes for her. She shakes her head and rolls into the ring, running to the far side. Jan steps through and Amber begins her attack again as the two continue their spar.
Squires of Wrestling Academy
Later That Night
Music plays in the background as Jan works out with a heavy bag, his punches deliberate, and his kicks methodical.
You do not scare me.
“Here come the woman with the look in her eye / Raised on leather with flesh on her mind.
Words as weapons Sharper than knives / Makes you wonder how the other half die”
A lot of people see the name of Julliet Brooks and all they can think about is “What is she going to do to me?” There are countless individuals who have not only regretted being in the ring with you, they have barely are enough that survived being in the ring with you. You have no fear. You have no equal. You are the Soaring Eagle Champion for a reason. You are the New Mexico Queen. You are the American Idol. You are all of those things... but you are not invincible.
“Here come the man with the look in his eye / Fed on nothing but full of pride
Look at them go, look at them kick / Makes you wonder how the other half live”
I do not have to destroy you. I simply have to make you lose. Whether that is through my own guise or whether that is through capitalizing on a mistake, I will make you lose. I won't lie to you, Julliet, I'm going to take great pride in this match. Win or lose, I'm taking great pride because it is the first time that you and I have stepped in the ring. It is the first time that you and I get to go one-on-one and it is the first time that I am here in Guerreros of Lucha. But all of that means nothing. All of that, is simply the hype. All of that, is what brings butts to seats and I don't believe the hype.
“Here come the world with the look in its eye / Future uncertain but certainly slight”
You are good but you are not the best, but you do have what I desire. You have the respect of the fans. You have the respect of me and of the respect of your peers. That is something that I treasure, something that I desire. So to gain those accolades, to gain those favors that you have and that I want, there's only one solution, Julliet:
I have to win.
I have to defeat you.
I have to take down what the perception of Julliet Brooks is. I have to make that fade away. Simply put, this is a match that does not just look good on paper, it is going to look absolutely fantastic in the ring. It is going to look great for ratings and it is going to be, dare I say, it is going to be THE match that everybody talks about in Guerreros of Lucha. It is going to be the match that everybody talks about at Hecho en Mexico and It is going to be THE match to make Jan van der Roost a household name once again. It is an honor and a privilege to be in the ring with THE Julliet Brooks. I will not and cannot deny that. But at the end of the night, Julliet, the same thing will be said by you - That is an honor and a privilege and a God-given right to have shared the ring with the Rooster, The Fixer, the Dutch Deathstalker and the next Soaring Eagle champion.
“Look at the faces listen to the bells / It's hard to believe we need a place called hell”
Do not take this match lightly. Julliet. From the bottom of my heart, I will say this is a match that I've been looking forward to for a long time. It is also a match that will soon become the last nightmare you ever wanted to have. It is nothing personal, Julliet. We are going to walk into that ring. You are going to look into my eyes and I'm going to look into yours and we are going to show the entire world what very few have seen. The bell will ring twice- at the beginning and at the end of the match. In between those bells, there are not two friends, two compatriots, or two compadres in the ring. It will be just Champion and Challenger. And it is simply going to be who desires this more. You are going to bring out all the stops and I will have to go deep into my heart and bring forth El Diablo: The Devil Inside of me to take every advantage that possibly I can. You know that. I know that. The fans know that and that is why they want to see and be a part of this match.
“The devil inside / The devil inside / Every single one of us, The devil inside”
Monterrey, Mexico is not going to be the same after Julliet and Jan make Hecho en Mexico mean something. Because at the end of the night, there will be no winners and no losers. There will only be two survivors and one of those survivors will be taking home the Soaring Eagle Title. Unfortunately Julliet, that survivor…. will not be you. The hype will all be over. The roaring cheers of the crowd will fade away. Julliet, I know you expect nothing less than 100% from me and I know you're going to give me a 110% as well. But not even 110% will be enough. The Fix Is In. The Rooster is taking home the Soaring Eagle Title and Julliet….

Jan turns and glares at the camera.
That’s the Way It Is.
Jan hits the heavy bag one last time then walks away.
