Chris Crippler had doubted his decision to return back to the world of professional wrestling when he signed the contract with Skyfire. Was it the right thing to be doing when he is in his fifty third year of his life, having stepped aside from full time schedule nearly eight years ago, focusing on training the younger generation in his wrestling school and other business adventures away from wrestling. Returning had always been a viable option as he kept himself in shape, training with the younger wrestlers kept him sharp, keeping his ear on the ground for something to take his fancy and Skyfire Wrestling did exactly that. Although the doubt was there when he signed, it slowly faded to a mere distant thought, Chris has never felt more alive as he stands on top of the mountain. Stands as Skyfire Champion.
Undefeated within Skyfire, having captured the Honour Championship first, relinquishing it when he became the promotions top champion, the first man in the promotions history to have captured both titles and held them at the same time (be it for an hour before handing the honour title back). He had been excluded from the tournament to crown the champion upon the promotions return, wrestling in a triple threat match that was the opening contest, Chris proved to Jay Jefferson that doing that was a mistake as he has now beaten almost everyone on its roster. Despite being excluded from the tournament, Chris has held the promotion in high regards as he heads over to New Japan Fighting Championship to wrestle in the Pride of Puroresu Crown tournament, to crown the first GPC World Heavyweight Championship. Gaijin competitors include Owen Gonsalves, Konrad Raab, Amis Shelton, John Pariah, Bryan Laughlin, Jason Cashe & Tommy Knox. A tough tournament but the one promotion Chris has grown fond off is the Guererros of Lucha.
Entering the La Azteca Rumble as well as putting his name into the hat for the Super Falcon Cup, never did he think at his age he’d be able to compete with the wrestlers he was in the ring with, but Chris outshone everyone in the rumble until his elimination by the winner. Roxi Johnson. Despite finishing runner up, Chris eliminated the most competitors in the match which included Super Falcon Cup rival Jack Tillman, putting him in good stead as he faced one of the tournaments favourites in Samantha Tolson. A challenger for the CWC World Championship, a former Honour Wrestling Champion, topping every bill in every promotion she has been apart off. Chris Crippler had thought his tournament chances might have dwindled and failed at the first hurdle, but just like his performance at the La Azteca Rumble, Chris stunned Samantha Tolson and the entire wrestling community by eliminating her to step into the quarterfinals against Amy Jo Smyth.
The Doctor of Submissions; The Good Doctor; The Glitterbomber.. Renown by so many monikers but the one she is known for in GOL is the former Soaring Eagles co-Champion. Chris knows this is going to be a tough facing the LAW Champion, someone who took Jack Tillman to the limits in the round before, but you have to wrestle the best in order to be proclaimed champion or winner and that is exactly what he has to do again. Samantha Tolson was first and maybe Amy Jo will be next.
It has been a short trip from Texas to Mexico as Skyfire’s latest show was in Amarillo, being victorious in a trios match against Mark Storm, Jeremy Stirling and Alexander Devin, although his mind is focused on ‘everyones hero and mine’ Mark Storm as in a few weeks he defends the Skyfire Championship against him at Power Surge. His focus is on the biggest threat in the Super Falcon Cup, Amy Jo Smyth, arriving at the arena wearing his custom made black suit with red shirt, pulling his carrier case that contains his wrestling attire and the Skyfire Championship (that is held in a purple velvet bag). Walking the hallways until he finds the locker room marked with his name on, GOL has already prepared the arena as it is going to be a huge show, with the debut of 4CW Champion the talk of most on social media. Overshadowing the quarterfinals of the Super Falcon Cup and the defence of the GOL Rey de Reyes Championship. Chris places his case down on a nearby chair, unbuttoning his suit jacket and taking it off to reveal a black waist coat, he places the jacket over the back of the chair and unbuttons his sleeves to roll them up his hairy arm. Chris glances at the camera with a smirk on his face.
“I recently had a discussion with a wrestling promotor on social media” Chris pulls out his phone from his trouser pocket. “I remembered him wrestling many moons ago in a now defunct promotion; he was very courteous and offered me to come along to one of his shows when I’m in the area. That was very pleasant and an offer that I will indeed take him up on.” He places his phone back into his pocket. “The point? Friendship can form in a blink of an eye out of anything. This was formed by me watching him wrestle a long time ago, remembering his matches and a few conversations using one hundred and forty characters and I’ve got a ticket waiting for me at their promotion. Friendships can be forge through combat, although the blood lust in their eyes wants to destroy their opponent, respect is made and friendship is formed from that respect. To me friends are just added baggage that I’ve had, I’ve trusted, I’ve fallen victim to that trust and I take the term ‘friend’ with a pinch of salt. Means little to me.” Chris shrugs his shoulders. “Does it make me bitter, maybe, but I’m not someone who relies on those bonds. Unlike my opponent at GOL, Amy Jo Smyth, someone who has seemingly reliant on those friendships to find out about little old me”
“You are right in the fact that Roxi did eliminate me, BUT you made it sound like she was dominant and controlling in the match, the way you say it and it wasn’t quite that clear cut.. If you look at the statistics of the match, I eliminated the most competitors in the contest, Roxi only eliminated the one and unfortunately for me, it was that all important one that won the contest.” Chris snorts. “Matches aren’t won on statistics but Roxi Johnson was very fortunate to have eliminated me, Samantha Tolson wasn’t so fortunate as I defeated her in the middle of the GOL ring, a friend of yours who wasn’t as fortunate as you and Jack.” He looks confused. “Both you and jack advanced DESPITE wrestling in an elimination style tournament, how does that work itself out, you guys should have received byes and not competed as your main event turned out to be just a showcase match between former EWC wrestler Jack Tillman and you. Draw or not.” Shaking his head in disbelief before continuing. “Sam wasn’t that lucky as I defeated her, she might be a predominant figure within the wrestling circuit these days, but she couldn’t do what needed to be done within this tournament so here we are once again. Chris Crippler advances forward facing you, Doctor Smyth, for the chance to claim a Semi-Final place in this cup as Eternal Lucha slowly beckons”
“I saw on twitter a recent poll involving our promotions, Amy Jo, I know twitter polls mean nothing but LAW wasn’t picked as the top promotion.. Skyfire Wrestling was top of the other three listed, it then was even between Skyfire Wrestling, 4CW and FGA. Two well established promotions and little Skyfire Wrestling was amongst them.” He smiles. “One of those reasons Skyfire Wrestling is doing so well is because of me! Because of the reason I am here in GOL, to highlight them as one of the best up-and-coming promotions, that competitors amongst our ranks can compete against the best, I may not like Mark Storm and will defeat him in a few weeks to keep my title. But he is a big name within this industry and he signed for Skyfire, to wrestle someone on his bucket list of 2017, that person begin ME! I’m heading over to Japan to compete in the NJFC and the whole reason I am there is to show everyone who Skyfire Wrestling is! Wrestling amongst wrestlers from 4CW, EWC, SCW.. premier promotions with worldwide coverage and here is me, the oldest competitor in that tournament, putting Skyfire Wrestling on the map as it deserves recognition!” Chris looks serious. “This isn’t LAW v Skyfire, I know this, I’m too old to realise tit for tat, but like you said we’re both here to put on our promotions colours and fly the flag of our promotion high in the air! Go Team Skyfire!” he mockingly ‘woos’.
“LAW has been a place where women can wrestling each other, no worries of men, Ladies/women/girls/gals can all wrestle each other and it has been doing well. You pointed out about Roxi Johnson being your partner, I’m sure her best partner is her wife, but partner nonetheless and I hope to wrestle her again in the future.” He says very sincerely. “I’m going to make sure that you remember me for the challenge I am, not needing second hand information for match preparation, I have sat down and watched reruns of Boardwalk Wrestling, RWA footage online via youtube, the matches in GOL concerning the Soaring Eagles Title.. You may not want or care for my past but to understand me is to watch me, Skyfire Is pretty evident of that as many doubt me and have fallen victim to that, I hope you will take me serious as I’m not a fool to have come this far… I know it is one match but Samantha Tolson isn’t exactly a walk over, eliminating thirty six percent of the competition isn’t something to be overlooked in the La Azteca Rumble, I am the person who could cause the biggest upset in this tournament once more! Eliminating the good doctor and advancing onto the semi’s at your expense!”
“Doctors are healers, doctors can be in many fields of expertise, doctors can study for years for their art and be trusted by those who do not understand. You may be a doctor with fancy qualifications but I’m a student of this game, wrestling for over three decades, studying and learning even at my grand old age and will do so until I finally hang my boots up and walk away from this business..” He pauses for a moment. “OR die” Chris looks cynically into the camera before gulping. “This could be my last match in the Super Falcon Cup and GOL, but this could also be yours, you say that my lust to be champion will drive me forward.. yes being a champion would be incredible but I wanted the honour of being Super Falcon Cup Winner or La Aztexa Rumble winner. FOR SKYFIRE. I have had multiple title reigns in my lifetime but the one championship I hold dear is the Skyfire Championship, before that was the Skyfire Honour title, I will do whatever it takes to make sure everyone knows what this promotion can do. I will do whatever it takes to defeat you, Amy Jo Smyth, but if it is my swansong then I’m going to go out in a blaze of glory!” He smirks. “Chris Crippler may not be someone you have heard off but after Uno, Dos, Tres, you would have heard, known and faced me! And I’m not one to end with the ‘I’m going to cripple you’ thing; that is tedious and idiotic, most people mock my name but after thirty years it has kinda stuck with me. No. I have heard all the childish calling of my name, making new quotes for me that I’ve never said, I’m a highly experienced wrestler who will give ANYONE the match of their lives and Amy Jo Smyth, that is something you’ll be getting at the PPV!” Chris nods. “It probably won’t be amongst your favourite matches, not even in your top ten, heck you’ll probably will forget me after this tournament but for now you’ll remember me, Doc. And I cannot wait, m’love!”
A knock comes at his door and it opens, a women of Latin decent peers around the door, speaking in Spanish before heading out and the door shuts. Chris looks a bit perplexed as one of the recording crew translates it to ‘the media are waiting for your press conference’, he nods his head as he opens his bag and pulls out the purple velvet bag, untying the draw string before opening it up and sliding the Skyfire Championship out. Draping it over his shoulder before heading out of the door and towards the media circus.
