Wrestler's Name: Congressman Dragón
Nicknames: Dragón Diamante, Diamond Dragon, The Representative from Texas
Gimmick: Dragón Diamante - twenty-three year veteran of the ring, staple of the southwest lucha libre scene... and newly-elected United States Congressman.
Yeah, he's just as confused as you are.
Height: 5'10
Weight: 212 lbs.
Place of Birth: Texas's 37th District
Alignment: Técnico
Team (tag, trios or stable): N/A (for now...)
Picture Base: Último Guerrero
Appearance/Attire:
Theme Music: 'The Inauguration' by Bun B
Entrance: The four ruffles and flourishes of 'Hail to the Chief's fanfare resound through the venue, and the official Seal of the United States Congress superimposed over a billowing American flag appears on screen. The seal burns away in a flash of fire, revealing a #DRAGON2016 campaign banner, and the music smoothly shifts into Bun B's 'The Inauguration'.
Clad in suit, tie, and luchador mask, out comes Congressman Dragón, waving to the crowd and raising Victory V fingers. He confidently strides down to the ring, occasionally stopping for high fives, handshakes, and selfies with the audience, handing out #DRAGON2016 and DRAGON FOR CONGRESS stickers along the way.
Dragón clambers up the ring steps, vaulting himself over the top rope. He takes to center-ring, before tearing away his suit (Cesaro-style) to reveal his bare chest and wrestling tights. Dragón raises a pair of Victory V's one more time, before taking to his corner to prepare for the match ahead.
Primary Style: Lucha Libre
Secondary Style: Southern Style (Dragón's become a big believer in old school rasslin' in his later years; down-and-dirty graps, less flashy, more practical-type stuff.)
Strengths:
Experience - Dragón has been wrestling for twenty-three years, working up and down the American Southwest and Latin American independent circuit. There's not much he hasn't seen before, and when it comes down to it, he leaves it all in the ring, no matter who he's competing against.
Old School - unlike many of his contemporaries in the ring, Dragón has great respect and appreciation for the glory days of professional wrestling; he knows how to strip a match of all the modern bells and whistles, slow down the pace, and string signature moves together in seamless harmony - without having to wreck himself.
Constitution (no pun intended) - Dragón has an understanding of his age and the physical limitations that come with it. It's a testament to how long he's lasted in his career, and while the lucha libre style is known for its fast and furious action, Dragón knows when to approach certain spots with caution; on the rare occasion he does take himself out, it's out of sheer desperation.
Weaknesses:
Ain't Living Long Like This - lucha libre is not an old man's game. While Dragón is only forty-two years old, that's practically geriatric in lucha years. No matter how careful he might play it, twenty-three years of wear-and-tear can and will slow him down in the ring.
Nagging Injuries - that wear-and-tear we just mentioned? A lot of that comes in the form of in-ring injuries (battle scars, he calls them) accumulated from that lengthy career. Knees, elbows, shoulders, not to mention a host of concussions and broken bones can all come back to haunt Dragón in the ring.
Conflict of Interest - it's not unheard of for wrestlers to have jobs on the side, part-time gigs in between bookings... but as of January 3rd, 2017, Dragón has been sworn in as the Representative from Texas' 37th District to the United States House of Representatives. The election itself, much like its Presidential equivalent, was rife with controversy from the start; due to multiple scandals from both the Democratic and Republican candidates, the voters of the 37th District instead chose to write-in a favorite son, a hometown hero who had never let them down: Dragón Diamante. Though he did not actively campaign, Dragón did not shirk the responsibility after winning the election by a hair... but refuses to give up his life's work of wrestling so soon, and has to worry about his duties as a Congressman as well as a wrestler.
