“December 16th is the night this all goes down.”
We open to Billy Danielson standing in an airport, waiting for his final flight from Novisbriski Airport to Moscow. Kayla Richards, his girlfriend, is passed out on a chair “guarding” their things as he walks through the airport. It’s small, but has a few stores open. Sadly there’s no Starbucks, so Danielson is just strolling through to keep from falling asleep himself. This world tour has certainly take it’s toll on him, but he could care less. His eyes beam with a sense of enthusiasm and arrogance.
“A match up that has been pushed off for SEVEN months finally coming to fruition, as Billy Danielson and Adrien Cochrane go head to head in the tie breaker of the Super Falcon Cup tournament finals.”
He has pride in his voice, because he knows how hard he’s worked to make all of this happen. From booking wrestling's elite for this show, to picking world-class venues, and everything else in between, Billy all but single-handedly brought the Super Falcon Cup back from the dead and it’s finally coming to the crescendo it deserves.
“This is match will be revolutionary to Guerreros of Lucha, because it is the highest profile Super Falcon Cup finals in the company’s history. It’s so massive it needed it’s own three day event just to contain it. Which is why I find it ironic that...”
Danielson pauses, as he scoffs. He cocks his head to the side, and just shakes his head. This is where the pride in his face turns to semi-repressed arrogance.
“...That this whole thing started because Adrien Cochrane couldn’t keep his ego in check.”
Knowing that this statement is rather controversial, Danielson flashes that ever arrogant smirk on his face. He had just called one of the most highly regarded good guys in professional wrestling an ego-maniac. If the people around him could hear him, or knew what he was talking about, they’d probably laugh at Billy. However, Danielson was standing by his claim as he continues on.
“That’s right, the biggest boy scout in professional wrestling couldn’t handle a joke, and that’s the reason why we are all here today.”
Danielson looks completely serious in his allegations. It’s very clear that Danielson honestly believes that, compared to his own arrogance, Adrien Cochrane is some sort of narcissist. Billy continues to speak on about this, as he begins to pace back and forth in the small airport.
“Back in June, I jokingly tweeted out about how I called dibs on the Super Falcon since GoL went on emergency hiatus before the tournament could even get started. GoL liked it and retweeted it in good fun, and it was understood that nothing other than a summer’s worth of Twitter jokes would come from it. It wasn’t until four months later, when GoL announced their return, and I jokingly asked for my Super Falcon celebration, that Adrien got offended by it.
For four months, Adrien Cochrane couldn’t be bothered with Guerreros of Lucha or their Super Falcon Cup. He didn’t care that I was making multiple tweets and posts about how I was the Honorary Super Falcon Cup winner, or that I was the only person even remotely concerned with the fact that I didn’t get a chance to win a cup I so desperately wanted back in early summer. All Adrien cared about, was the fact that his name wasn’t in the picture.”
Billy shakes his head, as he paints this picture of the ego maniac behind Adrien Cochrane. His smirk continues to grow though, as talking about another man’s arrogance seems to fuel his own. His confidence and charisma is radiating through, even in the dark frozen tundra of the small Russian airport.
“Adrien Cochrane isn’t a part of this for GoL. The company he was representing doesn’t even exist anymore. He just wanted the easy parts of winning, without the dedication, and that’s why tomorrow night in Moscow, I’m going to beat him and claim what is rightfully mine!”
This is where the mood starts to change. Even though he was a douchebag, Billy’s attitude changes to a much more sincere form of frustration and unappreciation. Danielson’s arrogance is temporarily replaced with a genuine sense of pride.
“I practically sold... my… soul to bring the Super Falcon Cup back from the dead. I had to campaign for us to have any form of closure. I’m the one that booked the venues, made the cards, begged Guerreros of Lucha for their blessing to allow us to finish what they had started. I did all of this for a company that I’m not even involved in, but Adrien Cochrane thinks that he can waltz in here on his inflated ego and take this away from me?”
Billy pauses stomps angrily as he continues to shake his head. He cannot seem wrap his head around where the ego of Adrien Cochrane should even come from. The people in the airport are starting to look at him. His passion is starting to replace his arrogance, as he starts express the amount of disrespect he’s felt from his opponent. The smirk that’s been on his face for almost the entire promo, is completely gone now.
“Adrien is only here, because he’s envious of who I am in this industry. He’s insecure in the fact that someone who has been wrestling a decade less than him, has more titles and accolades than he does. He’s jealous that an upstart had the power to pull so much attention from a company, to resurrect a tournament that everyone else was perfectly fine with leaving dead, when he couldn’t.”
Danielson takes a deep breath. He’s pausing to recollect himself, because he knows that an airport is not the place to go on an angry rant about Adrien Cochrane. He fixes his his outfit, smoothing out any creases in his clothes, as he looks up at the camera. Looks like he’s going to say something, but puts his hands up and stops. He tries again, this time with a sound of sort of defeat in it.
“For the first time IN MY LIFE I am doing something that has nothing to do without myself. I don’t want the Super Falcon Cup to be just another accolade for me. I don’t need anything else to pad a resume that already has me holding tag team titles by myself, defeating an entire company’s set of champions in the span 7 days, and winning two titles just by walking into a company. My career is beyond legendary, I’m but that’s not why I’m here. I don’t need that extra boost for my ego,
clearly.”
He pauses again, and shakes his pointer finger violently, as he thinks about what he’s going to say next.
“Adrien, on the other hand, does.”
He continues to shake his finger, as he nods his head. He sort of laughs to the side, as he knows that what he’s saying a bittersweet truth about his opponent.
“Adrien Cochrane, needs a reason for people to care about him, because in 13 years, he’s only held 8 titles. In 13 years, he’s only won 3 awards. Adrien is a good wrestler. Hell, he’s beaten me three times, so some might even call him a GREAT wrestler. However, when you compare his career, to mine, Adrien is nowhere near me. His career can’t hold a candle to mine, because in the 13 years he’s been wrestling, he hasn’t been able to achieve what I’ve done in my 3. So, the fact that I could retire right now, and still have a better career than him bothers him.”
Adrien’s career, even though it was long and storied, truly was nothing like Billy’s. Adrien’s career was filled with quality wins and losses. The stories he has told in that ring has been able to carry him past needing titles to be considered good, but the meteoric rise of Danielson is one that has become a legend in it’s own right. Danielson has gone from a no name, to a household name, to a man that has transcended levels that most people can reach in their careers.
Danielson has made a career of getting the things he wants, and doing anything to reach those goals. Usually that means taking the lower roads most times, but this time it means that he’s gone above and beyond for someone else’s brain child. Billy didn’t need Adrien, the world tour, or even the cup, but he wanted to make sure his mark was left.
“Adrien wants to talk about how the show has my name on it, and how the locations are ones I chose, but I was just fine wrestling for the Super Falcon in the Labyrinth. I was just fine beating him in just one show too, like I actually did in the first of our matches, but that doesn’t matter to him. He agreed to all of these things he’s complaining about, but that doesn’t matter to him. He was willing to bury the 2018 Super Falcon Cup and Guerreros of Lucha deep in the ground, because none of this matters to him.
The only thing that matters to him, is the paycheck he’s receiving, the excuses he’s been making, and the chance to make headlines one more time before he retires for good and settles down with his fiance.”
The arrogance begins to bubble again, but that drive and passion is still there behind every word. He put a lot into this. He was the driving force of making sure that the GoL had their definitive winner. Billy was willing to put his own pride behind him, to make sure this happened, and that’s not something that happens a lot. His drive to prove he can continue his claim of being the G.O.A.T., led him to giving someone, that he believes isn’t worthy, a shot at something that was already his.
“You can hate me. You can think I’m the single biggest douche bag to ever walk into the squared circle. You can chant “Fuck You Billy” until you’re all blue in the face. However, I put my heart and soul into making a seemingly dead concept in to a world event. I brought eyes to Guerreros of Lucha and the Super Falcon Cup that may have never even heard of either before #BDWITE. I created all of this, all of these great matches and shows, because I knew that the Super Falcon Cup deserved a winner that it could be proud of.”
Danielson’s smirk comes back, but it isn’t arrogant this time. It’s a driven and prideful smirk, like one a father would give his son. He didn’t want the Super Falcon Cup to go quitely into the night for 2018. Billy knew that if Adrien were to win it, he would leave it dead and buried just as he did before. Billy was the one who started this, and he wanted to be the one who ended it. He wanted to be the one to go down in history as the winner of the biggest Super Falcon Cup of all time, and he wanted to make sure that this revival launched a trend that would follow in Guerreros of Lucha until they COMPLETELY close their doors.
The GoL brainchild had become his, and he wasn’t going to let someone like Adrien beat him for it.
“For better or worse, I am the honorary Super Falcon Cup winner.”
The cockiness returns to his voice.
“I know you hate that, Adrien, but I am. I earned that right by being the only person who gave a damn. However, tomorrow in Moscow? I take my rightful place as the REAL Super Falcon Cup winner. Tomorrow night, I prove that Adrien Cochrane is every ounce of overrated has-been he’s proven to be in the past, as I end this debate once and for all.”
Billy points directly into the camera with determination.
“I am going to drive your head into the mat, and finally get what I’ve been fighting to achieve for the past 7 months.”
He puts his finger down, and leans back, showing off that famed Danielson arrogance one last time.
“Because it truly doesn’t matter what country or language you say it in, Adrien,
Billy Danielson wins in the End!”
A voice calls for those about to leave to Moscow please get ready to board. Billy smirks and does half wave to the camera.
“See you soon!”
He turns and walks back towards where Kayla and his stuff is. He begins to wake her as the scene fades to black.
